Suspicious Death Investigation in Springfield

Franconia Police District – Police responded to a report of shots fired at a home in the 7100 block of Healy Drive at around 6 p.m., Wednesday, January 1. Upon arrival to the home, no one answered the door. Concerned for the welfare of the residents, officers attempted multiple phone calls to the home.

Police deployed additional personnel and resources to the incident. Upon entry to the home at approximately 9 p.m., officers located a deceased woman who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. She was identified as Serena Hansken-Vierimaa, 41.

The other occupant of the home, Aaron Vierimaa, 41, was not injured. He was charged with obstruction of justice. The investigation is continuing. The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
