Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle

Franconia Police District – Police are investigating a low-speed, fatal crash that occurred on Thursday, January 2, at the Amerigo Gas Station, located at 6134 Franconia Road around 12:36 p.m.  The deceased, 66-year-old Robert John Friedrich, of Springfield, paid for his gas and was walking back across the lot to his car. It appears that Friedrich walked in front of a car driven by a 72-year-old Springfield man. The driver’s foot slipped off the brake, causing the car to slowly move forward, striking Friedrich. The impact caused Friedrich to fall to the ground where he struck his head.

Friedrich was transported to a local hospital. He later died on Sunday, January 5, around 3 p.m. The crash remains under investigation. No charges are anticipated at this time.
