The quick actions by patrol officers in the Mount Vernon police district led to the arrest of a man who reportedly attempted to assault and rob one person then robbed another in a matter of minutes.

Police were initially called to a parking lot in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, for a fight. Officers determined a 24-year-old man was approached by another man who asked for money. The victim declined and the suspect brandished a knife. A struggle ensued as the suspect reportedly tried to stab the victim. The suspect fled on a bicycle just prior to the arrival of police.

Officers located the suspect near the scene. The suspect attempted to flee but was eventually taken into custody. Moments later, a robbery was dispatched nearby. It was determined a 44-year-old woman was walking in the area of Pelican Drive and Audubon Avenue when a man approached her from behind on a bicycle. He threatened her with a knife and demanded money. The victim complied by giving the suspect her purse.

During the arrest, evidence was found that linked the suspect to both incidents. Jaime Granados, 21, of no fixed address, was charged with robbery, attempted robbery, attempted malicious wounding, obstruction of justice and defacing government property.  Neither victim required medical attention.
