Passenger Dies in Crash
A 40-year-old man died as a result of his injuries in a single vehicle crash on Richmond Highway near Fairhaven Avenue on Saturday, April 18.
Daniel Duarte Vasquez, of the Alexandria area, was a passenger in a 1995 BMW when the crash occurred at around 7:15 a.m. Crash Reconstruction Detectives believe that the vehicle was traveling south on Richmond Highway when it drifted off the right side of the roadway, up onto a curb, striking a fire hydrant, and a phone pole. The driver, a 23-year-old Oxon Hill, Maryland man, was seriously injured and transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The driver is now in stable condition there.
Detectives do not believe speed was a factor but are investigating whether alcohol may be involved. Charges are pending against the driver.
The deceased was not wearing his seat belt; the driver was.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the crash.
