NATIONAL COOKIE DAY – NATIONAL DICE DAY – FAUX FUR FRIDAY
RAIL SAFE INITIATIVE: Police participated in a collaborative effort between Metro Transit and Amtrak PD and various jurisdictions with metro transit system service. The initiative was developed for the purpose of detecting, deterring or disrupting possible terrorist activity and create a safe environment for public transportation commuters. On Thursday, December 3, law enforcement provided a high visibility presence on the metro transit system to support station patrols and increased security efforts. YOUTH ALCOHOL STING: Franconia Police District, 12/03/15. Officers and members of the Traffic Division conducted alcohol beverage control (ABC) compliance checks at stores as part of an ongoing ABC enforcement campaign. Utilizing police cadets dressed in plain clothes and less than 21 years old, 14 businesses were checked.
They entered ABC-licensed stores without identification and attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages in violation of Virginia State Code 4.1-304. The cadets were instructed ahead of time to provide their true age to any cashier who inquired. If the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages took place, a uniformed officer would step in and place appropriate charges. One charge was placed against an employee at the Shell Gas Station, located at 6451 Edsall Road in Alexandria.

ROBBERY: 7700 block of Richmond Highway, 12/03/15, around 6 a.m. A man robbed a 53-year-old woman at gunpoint as she was walking to work. The suspect took her purse and fled. He was described as black, between 20 and 25 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 140 pounds. He wore jogging clothes. The victim did not require medical attention. All of the victim’s property was recovered nearby.

WEST SPRINGFIELD DISTRICT STATION
DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED/RESISTING ARREST/REFUSE BREATH TEST/ARREST: Gainsborough Drive/Roberts Road, 12/04/15, around 2 a.m. An officer stopped a vehicle for traffic charges and determined the driver was apparently intoxicated. The driver resisted being taken into custody but officers gained control of him without incident. Donald Collins, 36, of Fairfax, was taken to jail and charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and refusal to take a breath test.
