Fall Driving: Be Alert for Deer
Police Explorer (Youth) Program: Seeking New Recruits, Registration Only Happens Once a Year
Two informational sessions, called a “First Nighter,” were held on Monday, September 19 and Monday, September 26. Nearly two dozen potential candidates attended the first meeting; a total of 26 were in attendance on Monday.
A third, and final, session will be held next week. We’ve had a great turnout so far and look forward to meeting another engaging and interested group of our community’s youth and share details on joining the Police Explorer program!

Mason Police District – Officers from around the county will conduct directed patrols; specifically looking for impaired drivers, on Saturday, October 1, from 11:30 p.m. until 2:30 the next morning. Please don’t drink and drive.

CARJACKING: 6300 block of Richmond Highway. 9/28/16, 5:11 p.m. After shopping at the Walmart on Richmond Highway, a 42-year-old man returned to his vehicle, a 2002 Honda Odyssey that was parked on the south side of the business. As he entered the Honda, an unknown man entered from the unlocked passenger door, implied that he had a weapon and threatened the victim. The suspect told the victim to drive him around and the victim refused. The victim then got out of the vehicle and yelled for help, while trying to remove the keys from the ignition. The suspect pushed the victim away from the vehicle and drove off, striking a vehicle during his escape. The victim was not injured. Officers located the stolen Honda, unoccupied, on the right shoulder of the outer loop of I-495, just south of Richmond Highway. K9 responded and tracked from the vehicle but did not locate the suspect. The suspect was described as white, 30-40 years old, with a goatee. He was wearing a white shirt, dark hooded jacket, blue jeans and a baseball cap.

PRESCRIPTION FRAUD: 6700 block of Arlington Boulevard. 9/28/16, 3:55 p.m. Employees of Walgreens notified police of a fraudulent prescription that was called in by a female. Officers were notified when the female arrived and she provided a false name. Further investigation revealed her identity as Imilsis Velazquez, 38, of Arlington. Velazquez was arrested for providing a false name to a law enforcement officer and prescription fraud.
