Update: Murder Charge after Man Dies from Injuries Sustained During Altercation
Mount Vernon District – A 33-year-old Alexandria man is facing a murder charge for the death of Matthew Watson. After consulting with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney, detectives obtained a warrant charging Jerry Alan Harbison with second degree murder. Harbison turned himself in last night and is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. No photo is available at this time.
Watson was found unresponsive in his apartment by officers in the 6600 block of Tower Drive on February 21. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, and was placed on life-support before he died on February 27.

Man Dies from Injuries Sustained During Altercation
Mount Vernon District – A man died yesterday evening from injuries sustained during an altercation near the Beacon Hill apartments on Feb. 21. Officers initially responded to the 6600 block of Tower Drive for the report of an unresponsive man. He was identified as Matthew Watson, 36, of Alexandria. He was taken to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.
Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have identified the other person involved. He is believed to have been known to Watson. The circumstances of the altercation are still being investigated.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has conducted an autopsy but has not yet ruled on cause and manner of death. Criminal responsibility will be determined pending further investigation and consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney.
