Barricade in Mount Vernon Ends in Arrest
Mount Vernon Police District – A Mount Vernon man is in custody following a barricade situation that ended around 11:30 p.m. last night. Officers were initially called to the 3100 block of Cunningham Drive around 6:30 p.m. yesterday for the report of a man acting erratically and threatening others in the home with a hammer. Officers arrived and saw 52-year-old George Collins outside before he ran into the home and refused to surrender.
Patrol officers contained the scene while crisis negotiators and tactical officers responded. Officers obtained a warrant for assault on a household member. Several hours later, officers from our Special Operations Division made entry and safely took Collins into custody. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. He is being held at the Adult Detention Center without bond.
