Homicide Investigation Underway after Man Shot in Hybla Valley
Mt. Vernon Police District – Detectives are investigating after a man was fatally wounded in an overnight shooting in Hybla Valley. Officers responded to the 7100 block of Fairchild Drive around 12:30 a.m. for a shooting and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds near a breezeway to an apartment community. Officers rendered aid until rescue personnel arrived. The man, identified as Xyqwavius Brown, 19, of the Alexandria section of Fairfax County was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
Detectives are working diligently to process evidence and interview witnesses. No information on suspect(s) is available at this time. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act of violence and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety.
