Homicide Investigation Underway after Body Found

Mount Vernon District Station – Detectives are investigating after the body of an adult man was discovered yesterday afternoon near a bridge at Old Mill Road and Gateshead Road. The man was located by a resident walking their dog. The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine cause and manner of death. An autopsy revealed the man suffered trauma to the upper body. The identity of the victim will be released pending next of kin notification.

This is an active investigation and detectives are working to process evidence and interview witnesses. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act of violence and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety.
