Detectives Investigating Non-Fatal Shooting in Lincolnia

Mason Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau are investigating a non-fatal shooting in Lincolnia yesterday afternoon that left one injured.

Yesterday, just before 4:20 p.m., officers from our Mason Police District responded to the 4600 block of North Chambliss Street in Lincolnia for a shooting. A family member reported the victim, a 12-year-old juvenile, was shot in the lower body. The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening and released the same day.

Preliminarily, detectives determined the victim arrived at the location and exited a vehicle. As he was walking to a nearby home, he was approached from behind by the suspect. The suspect shot the victim then fled in a Vehicle. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male, wearing a black mask. Detectives do not believe this was a random act of violence.

While detectives and officers were on scene speaking with one of the involved individuals, Demonte Basil, 18, of Washington D.C., it was discovered he was unlawfully concealing a handgun. He was cited for the concealed weapon violation.

Detectives are still investigating the circumstances that led up to the shooting and are asking the community to review any home surveillance footage in the area to assist in the investigation.
