Drug-Related Altercation Leaves One Man Dead and Another Man Injured

Sully Police District – Following a shooting during a drug-related altercation in Centreville, one man has been declared decease and another man is in serious condition.

Today at 9:35 a.m., officers responded to the 14600 block of Route 29 in Centreville for a shooting.  An adult male, Michael Alcantara, 18, of Manassas was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. Officers quickly attempted life-saving measures, but Alcantara was declared deceased at the scene.

Officers found another man, Hassan Kanu, 18, of Centreville who also sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Kanu was charged with Second Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony and remains hospitalized.

Preliminarily, detectives determined that both men were inside of a car. The men exited and exchanged gunfire with one another, resulting in both subjects being struck.

Detectives located two firearms and drugs at the scene and believe that this was a drug-related incident. Detectives do not believe this was a random act.

Detectives are still investigating the circumstances that led up to the shooting and are asking the community to review any home surveillance footage in the area to assist in the investigation.
