At-Home Daycare Provider Arrested After Assaulting Two Children

Mason Police District – Detectives from our Child Abuse Squad have arrested a 47-year-old woman for assaulting two children in her at-home daycare.

On August 1, officers responded to the 3600 block of Paul Street in Bailey’s Crossroads for a report of an assault. Child Abuse detectives learned that Sumy Shah, 47, of Alexandria, ran a county-licensed at-home daycare where, on multiple occasions, she had restrained the victims using tape.

Detectives obtained two counts of Misdemeanor Assault and two counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. On August 20, Shah turned herself in and was held on an unsecured bond. She has since been released.

Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victims receive appropriate resources and assistance.
