Man Arrested for Abduction and Attempted Sexual Assault in Groveton

Mount Vernon Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a man responsible for an abduction and attempted sexual assault that occurred in Groveton.

On October 4, at approximately 7:48 p.m., officers responded to the 7200 block of Fordson Road in Groveton for a report of an assault. The victim, an adult woman, reported that while inside a room, an unknown man entered, struck her in the head, and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim was able to escape, and the suspect fled the area before officers arrived. Officers conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau responded and assumed the investigation. Through their work, detectives obtained surveillance footage showing the suspect seen below.

During their investigation, detectives were in the Groveton area when they observed a man matching the suspect’s description at a nearby store. Detectives identified Oscar Barrios, 46, of Alexandria, as the suspect.

Barrios was arrested and charged with Abduction with Intent to Defile, Attempted Rape, Statutory Burglary, Simple Assault, and Petit Larceny. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was held on no bond.
