38-Second Drone Response Helps Catch Peeping Suspect in Reston
Reston Police District – Detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division, with the assistance of detectives from our Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) and patrol officers, have charged a man for peeping into occupied dwellings in Reston.
On March 13, at 11:17 p.m., officers responded to the 12000 block of Waterside View Drive in Reston after a victim reported seeing an unknown man peering through her bedroom window from outside. Detectives from our RTCC’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) program immediately launched a drone, which was on scene in 38 seconds. The detectives quickly located the suspect peeping through other windows.
Responding patrol officers were directed to the suspect’s location by RTCC detectives and Larry Mudd, 35, of Reston, was taken into custody.
Mudd was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with three counts of Peeping into an Occupied Dwelling. He was released on a personal recognizance bond.
Through their investigation, detectives do not believe Mudd is involved in the ongoing burglary investigations in Centreville.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding these incidents or who believe they may have been the victim of a crime involving Mudd to call our Reston Police Station at 703-478-0904 and ask to speak with a detective.
