FCPS Teacher Charged with Indecent Liberties by Custodian
Fairfax County, VA – Detectives from our Child Abuse Squad have arrested a Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) teacher during an investigation into an inappropriate behavior with a minor.
On June 2, the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Langley High School was notified of concerns regarding inappropriate behavior involving a teacher and a student. Detectives from the Child Abuse Squad were notified and assumed the investigation.
Detectives determined that Matthew Thorsen, 38, of Reston, a math teacher at Langley High School, engaged in unlawful and inappropriate contact with a student. Upon notification of the allegations, FCPS placed Thorsen on administrative leave.

On June 4, detectives located Thorsen at his residence in Reston and took him into custody. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with three counts of Indecent Liberties by Custodian and Using a Communication Device to Solicit a Minor. He was held without bond.
Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victim is receiving appropriate resources and support.
