Detectives Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Lorton
Franconia Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Lorton.
Yesterday at 3:29 p.m., officers responded to a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of Richmond Highway and Mims Street.
Preliminarily, the driver of a 2024 Ford F-650 towing a loaded trailer was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Richmond Highway into a business driveway. The vehicle’s trailer was struck by a northbound 2023 BMW S1000 motorcycle operated by Dwain Martin Jr., 24, of Lorton. Following the initial crash, Martin was subsequently struck by a 2023 BMW 430i traveling southbound on Richmond Highway.
Martin was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased. Both drivers remained on scene and were uninjured.
Preliminary, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Speed remains under investigation. Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
