Mount Vernon District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that occurred this past Tuesday in Groveton.
On July 28, at 7:04 p.m., officers responded to the 7200 block of Fairchild Drive for a shooting. They located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body and immediately began performing life-saving measures until relieved by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition and remains hospitalized.
Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau responded to assume the investigation.
Preliminarily, detectives determined the victim and the suspect were involved in a verbal argument when the shooting occurred. Detectives identified the shooter as Rusbel Alberto Argueta, 19, of Alexandria. Argueta was arrested and taken into custody shortly afterward. A firearm was recovered nearby. A separate individual involved was arrested on scene and charged with being drunk in public.
Argueta was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Discharge Firearm within 1000 Feet of an Elementary School, and Emergency Protective Order. He was held on no bond. No mugshot is available at this time.
