Mason Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash involving a Metro bus that occurred Sunday in Bailey’s Crossroads.

On August 16 at 8:32 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike and Carlin Springs Road for reports of a pedestrian who was struck by a Metro bus.

Preliminarily, CRU detectives determined that the driver of a 2022 New Flyer Metro bus was traveling eastbound on Columbia Pike and stopped at a red traffic signal at Carlin Springs Road. When the traffic signal turned green, the driver began making a right turn onto Carlin Springs Road. Adam Ali, 59, of Idylwood, was crossing Carlin Springs Road from west to east in the crosswalk with the pedestrian crossing signal when he was struck by the front right side of the bus.

Ali was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition and later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Metro bus was uninjured and remained on scene.

Preliminarily, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors for the driver. Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
