Fairfax County, VA – For 75 years, Fairfax County’s school crossing guards have helped generations of students make it safely to and from school, growing from just 10 guards in 1951 to a program that now serves 95 locations across the county.

The program began in October 1951 and has vastly expanded due to the rise in population and number of schools within the county. Our devoted crossing guards now ensure the safety of students and other pedestrian traffic at 95 locations, for a total of 185 crossings daily during the school year.  Their efforts are vital to accomplish an important goal: getting everyone to and from school safely.

75 years after its inception, this essential program is only possible because of those dedicated to carrying out the mission of pedestrian safety.

The School Crossing Guard Program is currently hiring.  If you or someone you know may be interested, more information is available here: Job Opportunities | Fairfax County Career Pages
