Mount Vernon District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have charged a 16-year-old teenager in connection with a non-fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon.
On September 29, at 4:30 p.m., officers responded to the 7700 block of Richmond Highway in Hybla Valley for a shooting. They located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body. A second adult male was located nearby with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau responded to assume the investigation.
Preliminarily, detectives determined that the victims and the suspect were known to each other and were involved in a verbal argument when the shooting occurred. Through their investigation, detectives identified a 16-year-old male as the shooter.
On October 1, the 16-year-old male turned himself in at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center. He was charged with Willfully Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place Causing Injury and held at the Detention Center.
Victim specialists from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victims are receiving appropriate resources and assistance.
