West Springfield Police District — Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one passenger dead.
On October 4 at 2:13 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at Fairfax County Parkway and Burke Lake Rd in Burke.
Preliminarily, a 2010 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Fairfax County Parkway approaching Burke Lake Road. A 2017 Toyota 4Runner was traveling eastbound on Burke Lake Road and was struck by the Nissan in the intersection.
The front passenger of the Nissan, Gerald Brook, 93, of Springfield, was initially transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition but was determined to be non-life-threatening shortly after arriving at the hospital. On October 5, Brook was pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained from the crash.
Preliminarily, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver of the Toyota. Speed is under investigation for the driver of the Nissan.
