Mason Police District – This week, a 73-year-old burglar was quickly located and arrested with the assistance of detectives from our Auto Crime Enforcement Squad (ACE) and Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology.
On October 27, at 9:40 a.m., officers responded to the 8900 block of Karen Drive in Mantua for a burglary. The homeowner observed a man breaking into their residence through a home security camera and provided officers with a description of the suspect and his vehicle.
Detectives from our Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) and ACE quickly coordinated their efforts, using ALPR technology to locate the vehicle.
Shortly after, RTCC detectives located the suspect vehicle on Richmond Highway in Fair Haven. ACE detectives responded and arrested the driver, Michael Spillino, 73, of Alexandria. During the investigation, detectives recovered evidence from the vehicle linking Spillino to additional burglaries outside of Fairfax County.
Spillino was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was charged with Burglary and Grand Larceny. He was later released on a $2,000 bond.
The use of ALPR technology and coordinated efforts between RTCC and ACE detectives were instrumental in quickly locating the suspect and making the arrest.
