Update-House Fire Leads to Death Investigation in Fairfax
FALSE SUMMONING OF POLICE / WARRANT SERVICE/ARREST: 5900 block of One Penny Drive, 07/28/16, 3:20 p.m. Police received a call about a 22-year-old man who was in emotional distress. The man fled the residence prior to police arrival. Responding officers were informed there was an outstanding arrest warrant on file for Jacob Hughes, 22, of Fairfax Station, from an unrelated case that stemmed from the West Springfield police district earlier in the day. As officers searched for Hughes, an officer contacted him by phone and began to develop a rapport with him over several phone calls. During this time, Hughes apparently called the Department of Public Safety Communications and reported a false crime at a nearby location. After an extensive search and several phone calls, Hughes agreed to come out of his hiding location. He was taken into custody and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with giving false reports to law enforcement officials. He was also served with the three outstanding warrants for assault and two counts of profane or threatening phone calls.

TRESPASSING: 6500 block of Haversack Road, 07/28/16, 9:54 a.m. A neighbor reported an open window at the residence. Officers responded and determined that someone had entered the house but no property has been reported missing at this time.

Update-Arrest Made in Homicide
ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT / ESCAPE / WARRANT SERVICE / ARREST: 3400 block of Pipit Drive, 07/28/16, 4 p.m. Officers responded to the residence to attempt to serve an outstanding warrant. An officer recognized the wanted man outside of the residence. The officer made contact with Deris Enrique Vargas Diaz, 20, of Alexandria and attempted to take him into custody. Vargas Diaz assaulted the officer then fled on foot. He was located nearby and was taken into custody. Vargas Diaz was charged with assault on law enforcement, providing false identification, escape by force, and resisting arrest. The outstanding warrant for auto theft was also served on Vargas Diaz.

TRESPASSING: 7900 block of Janna Lee Avenue, 07/28/16, 4:44 p.m. A resident reported finding two teenaged boys inside her apartment. Nothing was taken. Charges are pending.

ROBBERY: Faber Court / West Street, 07/28/16, 11:15 p.m. A taxi driver had four men in his cab. The men displayed a knife and demanded money and his cell phone. The suspects took his property and fled. The victim did not require medical attention. The suspects were described as Hispanic and between 20 and 23 years old. One of the suspects was described as wearing a black hat and black T-shirt.

TRESPASSING / DRUNK IN PUBLIC: 11900 block of Market Street, 07/25/16, 2:25 a.m. Officers responded to the location for a report of a burglary. Security officers advised that a man had forced his way inside of the theater after being asked to leave the property. Zachary Visco, 23, of Ashburn, was arrested and charged with trespassing and drunk in public.

BURGLARY: 5600 block of Harrington Falls Lane, 07/28/16, 6:45 a.m. A resident reported someone entered the residence and took property. The residents’ vehicles were also entered and property was taken.
BURGLARY: 5500 block of Vincent Gate Terrace, 07/28/16, 8:54 a.m. An employee reported someone entered the business and took property. The male suspect was described as 17 to 19 years old, with an olive complexion, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, and 120 to 140 pounds. He was wearing black shorts, black T-shirt, black shoes, black hat, and carrying a black backpack.
