West Springfield Police District – Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in the intersection of Old Keene Mill Road and Field Master Drive. Hirute Siyum, 46, of Springfield, was attempting to cross Old Keene Mill Road around 7:30 this morning. She was outside the marked crosswalk, and was seen running north across the intersection in front of oncoming traffic.  Based on our initial investigation, the driver of a 2016 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling westbound in the left lane of Old Keene Mill Road, and could not avoid hitting Siyum. Siyum was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for anyone involved. The driver remained at the scene.
