Construction sites can be vulnerable to theft and vandalism due to the presence of valuable equipment, materials, and tools. Implementing effective theft prevention measures is essential to protecting your construction site and ensuring the smooth progress of your project.

FCPD recognizes the importance of construction site security in safeguarding our growing county and offers tips to keep construction sites secure.

Here are a handful of tips to keep your job site secure:

1. Secure the perimeter: Install fencing around the construction site to deter unauthorized access. Use sturdy materials and ensure that the fencing is properly secured and regularly inspected.

2. Implement surveillance systems: Install security cameras at strategic locations on the construction site. These cameras should have good coverage and provide clear images. Consider using motion-activated cameras and remote monitoring options.

3. Control access points: Limit the number of entry points to the construction site and keep them locked when not in use. Use access control systems such as key cards or biometric scanners to ensure only authorized personnel can enter.

4. Adequate lighting: Proper lighting can discourage theft by making it harder for intruders to hide and operate unnoticed. Ensure that the construction site has sufficient lighting during both day and night.

5. Secure equipment and materials: Keep valuable equipment, tools, and materials locked and stored in secure containers or buildings when not in use. Use equipment tracking systems and mark equipment with unique identifiers to assist in recovery if stolen.
