Securing Your Shipments: Tips to Keep Your Deliveries Safe
Fairfax County, VA – Online shopping and frequent package deliveries bring increased opportunities for criminals to steal. By taking simple precautions, we can collectively reduce the risk of theft. FCPD recommends these tips to help keep your packages secure:

Schedule Deliveries: Choose a delivery time when you are home or use services that allow you to select a delivery window.
Use Secure Drop-Off Locations: Opt for delivery lockers or secure drop boxes that can be locked and protect your package until you can retrieve it.
Install Surveillance Cameras: A visible camera along with proper lighting can deter thieves and provide evidence if a theft occurs. Additionally, good video surveillance can provide law enforcement with important leads.
Require Signatures: Request that packages be delivered only when someone is present to sign for them.
Arrange for Pickup: Have packages delivered to your workplace or a trusted neighbor if you are not home.
Track Your Packages: Monitor delivery status and be ready to retrieve your items as soon as they arrive. If possible, sign up for package alerts to stay informed about your delivery’s status.
Report Theft Immediately: If your package is stolen, report it to the delivery service and report it to Fairfax County Non-Emergency Line at 703-691-2131.
