DWI Enforcement Squad Wraps Up Successful Safe December

Fairfax County, VA – The Fairfax County Police Department’s DWI Enforcement Squad closed out 2025 with a strong focus on roadway safety through its Safe December initiative. Throughout the campaign, officers made more than 700 traffic stops and arrested 89 impaired drivers, marking the most successful Safe December effort in the program’s history.

From December 4 through January 9, the squad increased staffing and enforcement efforts to deter impaired driving, identify intoxicated motorists, and maintain a strong law enforcement presence throughout the county. This resulted in hundreds of citations and arrests, contributing to fewer alcohol-related incidents and safer roads for the community during the holiday season.

The DWI Enforcement Squad’s heightened enforcement and proactive approach have not only discouraged impaired driving but also increased community awareness around the importance of drinking responsibly.

While the Safe December campaign has ended, officers will continue their efforts throughout every month of 2026 by actively enforcing traffic laws, engaging with the community, and maintaining roadway safety as part of their ongoing commitment to the residents of Fairfax County.
