“Walk for Peace” Rolls Through Fairfax County

Fairfax County, VA- The Fairfax County Police Department assisted with traffic control and route planning as Buddhist monks participating in a “Walk for Peace” traveled safely through Fairfax County this Sunday.

The monks are in their final stretch of a months-long journey to Washington, D.C., which began in October 2025 in Fort Worth, Texas. Along the way, they have focused on connecting with the communities they pass through.

To support the walk through Fairfax County, our officers worked with event organizers to plan a safe route and provide traffic control and escorts along busy roadways. Members of our Motor Unit, the Mount Vernon District Station, and the Civil Disturbance Unit played a key role in guiding the group and helping ensure the safety of participants, spectators, and motorists.

Despite increased traffic throughout the area, community members lined the route to show their support as the monks continued their journey toward the nation’s capital. During the walk, the monks were presented with a special badge from FCPD as a symbol of support and partnership.

As the group made its way through Fairfax County, the monks took their final break before continuing toward the Alexandria City line, where they were safely handed off to the next escort.
