Mount Vernon Police District— Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Hybla Valley.

On July 3 at 8:06 p.m., officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian in the 7900 block of Richmond Highway.

Officers determined that the driver of a 2025 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Richmond Highway. The pedestrian, Julio Quintanilla, 61, of Alexandria, was crossing the road outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle. Quintanilla was transported to a local hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening and was issued a citation for crossing outside of a crosswalk. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured and remained on scene.

On July 18, detectives were notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that Quintanilla succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash. Preliminarily, alcohol appears to be a factor for the pedestrian. CRU detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
