Fair Oaks District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal e-scooter crash that occurred yesterday evening.

On July 23 at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Madden Court in Sully Square for a report that a 9-year-old boy riding an electric scooter was struck by a vehicle.

Preliminary, CRU detectives determined that the driver of a 2012 Honda Odyssey was making a left turn from Highland Mews Court onto Madden Court when her vehicle and the electric scooter collided in the parking area.

The boy was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition and later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Honda was uninjured and remained on scene.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash. CRU detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Chaplains from our Health & Wellness Division and Victim Specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victim’s family and other affected members of the community are receiving appropriate resources and assistance.
