Do you have expired, unused medications that you no longer want or need?  Bring them to one of three participating Fairfax County district stations, Sully, Mason or Franconia, this Saturday, October 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dispose of old drugs in a safe, convenient and responsible manner during the National Take-Back Initiative.

With the increasing prevalence of prescription drug abuse and addiction, unused medications are at risk of being abused or stolen. Last year, Americans turned in 371 tons of prescription drugs at over 5,800 sites. The initiative is part of a public safety and public health issue led by the Drug Enforcement Administration in partnership with local police agencies across the nation. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse, abuse and diversion. Health officials stress that flushing medications in the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards.
