Find Your Furry ‘Pot of Gold’ at the Animal Shelter this St. Patrick’s Day Weekend
Come to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter March 13-15 to meet your perfect pet and change your life, and theirs. Adoption fees for adult pets (ages five and over) have been cut in half. Adoption fees for ten of the pets will be completely waived. Currently, there are more than 25 dogs and puppies, 30 cats and kittens and 15 small pets that are hoping to “get lucky” this weekend.
Recently, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter has experienced a higher-than-usual number of dogs and cats being surrendered to the shelter. According to Director Tawny Hammond, “For whatever reason, there are more families than ever making the tough decision to give up their beloved pets. Many of the animals we have now are wonderful, house-trained pets who have lived with kids and other pets. Through no fault of their own, they’ve found themselves homeless.”
Even if you’re not in the market for a new pet, the shelter encourages visitors to come and see the newly renovated shelter and learn about all of the exciting programs and opportunities the shelter has to offer. “Our goal is to have all of our visitors leave with big smiles on their faces,” says Director Hammond. “The shelter is a great place to educate kids about responsible pet ownership and to learn more about the pet that may be the right fit for your family.”
This weekend, the shelter will be offering sweet treats (green ones, of course) to visitors and take-away treats for cat and dog owners. The shelter is open Tues. – Fri., noon – 7 p.m. and Sat. 10 a.m. to 5p.m. Visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter to view available pets and find the shelter on Facebook at www.facebook.com/fairfaxcountyanimalshelter.
