Death Investigation Underway

West Springfield District – Police received a report of a missing 62-year-old woman, Mary Gibson, of the 7000 block of Galgate Drive in Springfield on Friday, July 25 at around 6 p.m. Ms. Gibson had apparently left her home around 4 p.m. to walk her dog; a black, Labrador Retriever.

Various resources from the police department; Patrol officers, K-9, bloodhound, helicopter, Search and Rescue, and others, were sent to the area to search for Ms. Gibson.

At about 9:20 this morning, the body of a female was located in a wooded area, in Pohick Stream Valley Park, about one-half mile from Ms. Gibson’s residence. Detectives at this point believe the body to be that of Ms. Gibson. There are no apparent signs of foul play. Next of kin has been notified.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will confirm identification and determine cause and manner of death.
