Two Pedestrians Struck; Seriously Injured
Police are investigating a serious pedestrian crash that occurred on Monday, June 15 at around 2:50 p.m. near the 3800 block of South George Mason Drive in Bailey’s Crossroads.
Two men (from the Alexandria area) were walking along the sidewalk of a strip mall when they were struck by a Honda Odyssey minivan. One of the men, 44, was thrown to the ground; the other, age 63, was pinned against the brick wall of the building, causing severe wounds, open lacerations and life-threatening injuries. Both victims were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Prior to arrival of emergency medical responders, PFC Angela Thomas applied a tourniquet from her “Go bag” kit in order to stop the heavy flow of blood. According to on-scene police supervisors, she likely assisted in saving the man’s life.
The investigation is continuing; charges have not yet been placed against the driver.
