PERF Use-of-Force Policy and Review of the FCPD shared with Community
Soon after taking office as Chief of Police, Colonel Edwin C. Roessler Jr. requested the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) conduct an extensive review of the Use-of-Force Policy and Practice Review of the Fairfax County Police Department. The review concentrated on the Police Department’s policies, procedures, directives, and training materials and curricula related to use-of-force. Today, Colonel Roessler is announcing that PERF has completed the Use-of-Force Policy and Practice Review of the Fairfax County Police Department and it is being shared with the community.
The Police Department has established a senior leadership committee of subject matter experts who are working on policy enhancements as related to our efforts to obtain national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The CALEA committee was tasked by Colonel Roessler to assist in reviewing and revising many of the core PERF recommendations which will further our efforts in being a national model for change in our profession.
