Chief Attends Meeting on Community Relationships

Chief Edwin C. Roessler, Jr. attended a meeting of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. on July 10 where he and law enforcement leaders from across the nation examined and discussed strategies to build trust and support between police and community members.

The meeting titled “Strengthening Police and Community Relationships” focused on events that have taken place across the nation involving the perception of police tactics and areas where police-community relationships are strained.

The comments and issues will be summarized and posted online as part of a Critical Issues in Policing report series and will be available in the coming weeks. The report is part of PERFs critical issues series, supported by the Motorola Solutions Foundation; past reports may be viewed online: http://www.policeforum.org/critical-issues-series.

Each law enforcement official was asked to invite a community leader to discuss these critical issues at the meeting. Chief Roessler was accompanied by Shirley Ginwright, President of the Fairfax County NAACP, Communities of Trust Chair for Fairfax County, and Executive Member of the Chief’s Diversity Council.
