Directed Patrol: 05/28-05/29. Officers from the Sully District and Mclean District, patrolled the area searching for drunk drivers. Additionally, officers from the Operations Support Bureau patrolled the county looking for drunk drivers. This was a successful deterrent to driving while intoxicated.
Sobriety Checkpoint: 05/27/16 in Reston District this past weekend resulted in 539 cars screened, two arrests for DWI, and four other traffic violations. Thank you for your safe driving and cooperation.
SHOOTING INTO AN OCCUPIED DWELLING: 14300 block of Watery Mountain Court, 05/28/16, 12:17 a.m. Officers responded to a residence where gun shots were fired into the home. No parties were injured and an investigation is ongoing

Man In Need of Crisis Intervention At Local Pool
This afternoon, around 1:30 p.m., officers were called to the 5800 block of Cameron Run Terrace at Riverside Park Swimming Pool, in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County, for a report of a 20-year-old life-guard experiencing emotional distress. Officers attempted to communicate with the subject, using crisis intervention training techniques; however, the man continued to ignore the officer’s attempted communication.
The pool was evacuated and officers continued to attempt to communicate with him but he instead jumped in the pool, swam, exited the pool, and began talking out loud. The man only spoke Polish and a Polish-speaking officer was summoned to the scene. This officer continued to attempt communication to no avail. The distressed man then jumped back into the pool and sank to the bottom at which point another lifeguard along with the assistance of the officers were able to bring the man out of the water. The man was unresponsive when he was taken out of the pool. Fire and Rescue personnel assisted the man and after regaining consciousness, he became combative. He was taken into custody for his own protection and transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in a non-life-threatening condition where he will be evaluated.
ROBBERY: 3400 block of Anker Street, 05/28/16, 2:24 a.m. The victim was working on a vehicle and was approached by three males. They assaulted the victim, took money and property, and fled in a vehicle. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was not transported. The first suspect was described as black, approximately 27 years old, 6 feet 4 inches tall, of a larger build, black hair, and had a beard. He was wearing a black shirt and pants. The second suspect was described as black, approximately 27 years old, 6 feet 4 inches tall, of a larger build, black curly hair, and clean shaven. He was wearing a black shirt and pants. The third suspect was described as Hispanic, 27 to 30 years old, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, and wearing a black shirt and beige pants. The suspect vehicle was described as a black sedan.
BURLGARY: 2100 block of White Oaks Drive, 05/29/16, 11:55 p.m. Resident reported that while out of town from May 23 to May 29, someone entered their home and took property.

TRAFFIC STOP/CONCEALED WEAPON/ARREST: South Jefferson Street/Columbia Pike, 05/30/16, 1:17 a.m. An officer observed a traffic infraction and conducted a traffic stop. The officer smelled an odor of marijuana and Jean-Luc Joannides, 20, of Falls Church was arrested for possession of marijuana. During the search of the vehicle, a concealed handgun was located and an additional charge of possession of concealed firearm was placed on the suspect. He was transported to the adult detention center.
FOOT PURSUIT/CONCEALED WEAPON/NARCOTICS/ARREST: 7600 block of Little River Turnpike, 05/29/16, 11:06 p.m. Officers observed two men walking in and out of traffic lanes. Officers attempted to stop the men when they fled. Officers were able to apprehend one suspect who had discarded narcotics and a weapon. Mikiyas Girma, 18, of Annandale was arrested and taken to the adult detention center and charged with obstruction of justice, possession of a concealed weapon, and possession of marijuana. A petition was obtained for the second suspect, a 16-year-old male from Annandale.

ASSAULT BY MOB/ATTEMPTED ROBBERY/ARREST: 6000 block of Argyle Drive, 05/28/16, 11:54 p.m. Officers responded to the report of a robbery and assault. An investigation determined that the victim had purchased a pizza at a store and began walking when he was approached by several men. The men demanded his pizza and began to assault him. A security guard was able to intervene and assisted the victim, while detaining one of the suspects. Rocael Romero Mendez, 22, of Falls Church was arrested and taken to the adult detention center where he was charged with attempted robbery and assault. The remaining suspects were described as Hispanic and fled on foot. The victim did not require medical attention.

BURGLARY: 3900 block of Longstreet Court, 05/27/16, 7:53 p.m. Residents reported that someone entered their home and took property.
BURGLARY: 3000 block of Patrick Henry Drive, 05/27/16, 12:24 p.m. A resident reported that someone broke into her home and took property and money.
BURLGARY: 5800 block of Seminary Road, 05/29/16, 6:36 a.m. A security guard reported that he observed a broken window in a business. Officers responded and further investigation revealed security camera footage of a man throwing a brick into the glass door and taking property and cash. The suspect was described as black, wearing a blue windbreaker with a hood, and khaki pants.

Update: Death Investigation Great Falls
Major Crimes Division detectives continue to work closely with the Medical Examiner’s Office on this case. Initially reported as a suicide, our thorough investigative efforts continue which includes critical interviews and awaiting the official report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. We will provide updates as this case progresses.
Cases which are initially reported as apparent suicides are assigned to Major Crimes Homicide unit. Until cause and manner of death is determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, reclassification of cases may be delayed until a thorough investigation is completed.

UPDATE:Jewelry Store Robbery/Officer-Involved Shooting/Carjacking in the Springfield Area
Detectives from both the Major Crimes Division and Internal Affairs Bureau continue to work on their respective criminal and administrative investigations of the robbery and officer-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, May 21, in the 7000 block of Brookfield Plaza, in Springfield. The injured citizen was released from a local hospital. The officer involved, PFC Lane M. Leisey, a 10-year-veteran*, assigned to the Franconia District Police Station remains on administrative assignment.
The investigation continues as the apprehended individuals are involved in extradition proceedings, and more information will be released as it becomes available.

EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED PERSON/BARRICADE: 7500 block of Ashby Lane, 05/29/16, 3:39 p.m. A family member reported that her adult son was experiencing emotional distress and apparently destroying property and attempting to harm himself. Officers responded and were able to successfully make contact with the subject and take him to Merrifield Center for further evaluation.
ROBBERY: 6800 block of Springfield Blvd, 05/31/16, 2:20 a.m. Officers responded to the report of a robbery at the Motel 6. An investigation determined that three men knocked on a door where a large group of people had gathered inside. The door was opened and the men went in and one suspect brandished a handgun, while another suspect brandished a hammer. They demanded money and property and several victims complied. The suspects then fled in an unknown direction. The victims did not require any medical attention. One suspect was described as black, heavy-set, with dred-lock style hair. The other two suspects were black and their faces were covered.
