06/30/16 – Officers from the West Springfield District conducted directed DWI patrols. 21 vehicles were stopped, resulting in two DWIs, 19 summonses, and one criminal charge.
There will be a sobriety checkpoint tomorrow, July 2, in the Sully District Station, from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Stay safe and drive sober.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY: 3600 block of Rolling Hills Avenue, 6/30/16, midnight. The victims were walking when approached by an unknown man. The man implied he had a weapon and demanded money. Spenser Harris, 29, of no fixed address, was arrested, transported to the adult detention center, and charged with attempted robbery.

BURGLARY: 6900 block of Birch Street, 6/30/16, 11:40 a.m. A resident reported that an unknown man entered the home through an unsecured door. The suspect immediately fled when he saw someone in the home. The suspect was described as black, in his 20s, and about 6 feet tall, with a slim build.
BURGLARY: 2100 block of Greenwich Street, 6/30/16, midnight. A resident reported that someone entered the residence and took property.

SEX OFFENSE: 6700 block of Spring Mall Road, 6/30/16, 6 p.m. A teenaged boy was walking when a man approached in a vehicle. The suspect allegedly touched himself inappropriately in front of the victim. Jay Karanwal, 27, of Arlington, was charged with obscene sexual display and released on a summons.

MALTREAT ANIMAL: 7000 Leewood Forest Drive, 06/29/16, 2:22 p.m. Animal Protection Police conducted an animal welfare check. An investigation discovered 10 dogs that were in need of services. The dogs were seized and transported to the animal shelter. Bernadine Kreider, 78, and Robert Kreider, 73, both of Springfield, were served with unfit owner petitions and charged with failing to vaccinate a dog and having an unlicensed dog. Other county services were contacted to ensure the health and safety for all involved and the investigation is ongoing.
