GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Join Mount Vernon District Station tonight for their monthly community engagement meeting located at 2511 Parkers Lane in Alexandria. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and Police Chaplain, Jeri Fields, will be present discussing the Chaplaincy program and how they support the police department.
Join Sully District Station tomorrow night, October 12, at 7:30 p.m. for their monthly community engagement meeting. The meeting is held at 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly and members of the Firearms Safety Training Unit will be on hand to discuss safety and security of weapons.
Would you like to learn more about the Fairfax County Police Department and meet the men and women who serve? Join us as we host a three-hour forum on Saturday, October 15, from 10 am – 1 p.m. at the George Mason Regional Library, located at 7001 Little River Turnpike in Annandale. Attendees will be presented with an overview of the Fairfax County Police Department and will have the opportunity to gain insight into police policies and procedures. Other topics that will be covered are use of force, what to expect during traffic stops, and the everyday challenges officers face.

Pence Gate in Mount Vernon/Route 1 area will be closed for construction for about six weeks. Expect major traffic delays. Build time into your schedule and find alternate routes, if possible.

Officers in the Reston Police District conducted a sobriety checkpoint last Friday evening at the intersection of the Fairfax County Parkway and North Walnut Branch road. They screened 536 cars, made two DWI arrests, and issued four summonses.

On Thursday, October 6, officers from the West Springfield District and members of the Traffic Division conducted alcohol compliance checks on several businesses. 28 stores were checked with three arrests made for illegal purchase of alcohol. Several establishments were in compliance and did not sell alcoholic beverages illegally.
There will be a sobriety checkpoint in the Franconia Police District this Saturday, October 15, between 11:15 p.m. and 2:15 a.m. Please drive sober and stay safe!

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY: 3100 block of Southgate Drive, 10/7/16, 8:05 p.m. Police responded for a report of a robbery. A man entered the business, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The victim, a store employee, did not require medical attention. The suspect was described as black, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build, wearing a black shirt and brown khakis.
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY: 5900 block of Richmond Highway, 10/8/16, 10:33 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a robbery. Three men entered the establishment, displayed handguns, demanded cash and took property from the employees. The suspects were black, wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered. The victims did not require medical attention.

BURGLARY: 2400 block of Hurst Street, 10/9/16, about 9:24 a.m. The victim reported that she had been away for a week and upon returning noticed that someone tried to enter her home through the garage door. The door was damaged, but it appeared that no property was taken.

HIT AND RUN/ASSAULT: 6100 block of Arlington Boulevard, 10/8/2016, 2:32 a.m. Police responded to a report of a hit and run. The two victims were sitting in their car when it was struck by a black sedan. Three Hispanic men exited the striking vehicle and assaulted one of the victims with a pole. The victim had a non-life-threatening injury. The three men then got back into their vehicle and fled the area.

ASSAULT: 11800 block of South Lakes Drive, 10/9/16, around 4:45 p.m. Two men were walking near South Lakes Park when they were assaulted by a large group of people. Police responded and the suspects fled the area. Both victims received non-life-threatening injuries.

PEEPING: 9000 Mulvaney Court, 10:03 p.m. A man contacted police after he saw someone looking into the rear glass door of his residence. The suspect remained in the area and was located by responding officers. Anthony J. Ortiz, 20, Arlington, was arrested for peeping.

MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED DWELLING: 3900 Tallow Tree Ct. 10/10/16, 9:03 a.m. Police responded to a report of what appeared to be the sound of gunshots and an apparent bullet found inside someone’s home. The victim did not require medical attention and no one else was injured. The investigation continues.
