COMMERCIAL BURGLARY/POSSESSION OF BURGLARIOUS TOOLS: 4200 block of John Marr Drive (K-Mart), 10/24/16, around 3:43 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a shoplifting at a business. A store employee saw a woman attempt to take jewelry and disable the security device. The suspect used a cutting tool to remove the security device and left the store without paying for the merchandise. An investigation identified the suspect and warrants are on file.

WEST SPRINGFIELD DISTRICT STATION
ROBBERY/STABBING: 7500 block of Little River Turnpike, 10/24/16, around 8:35 p.m. Police responded for a report of a large group of people fighting. A further investigation determined that two boys were walking along a pathway when they were confronted by a large group of teens. The group began to assault one of the boys and the victim called for his father. The father attempted to intervene and was stabbed with a sharp object. The suspects fled the area, but were identified by witnesses. Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and the investigation is on-going.

SKIMMING DEVICE: 12300 block of Lee Jackson Memorial Highway (Briar Oaks Service Center), 10/24/16 around 10:25 a.m. Financial skimming devices were found inside three gas pumps during a regular maintenance check. Financial Crimes and Crime Scene detectives responded to collect the devices. The investigation continues.
To help protect yourself from credit card fraud, detectives recommend:
- Regularly checking your financial statement for any unusual or fraudulent charges and report them to the card company immediately.
- Use credit cards to make purchases versus debit cards, as it can be more difficult to have your bank funds reimbursed.
- Inspect all credit cards readers prior to sliding your card. You may not be able to see a skimming device but look for pry marks, scratches or other signs of tampering. Report suspicious activity to police.
- If you feel you’ve been victimized by Skimming/Scammers, report it to police online through the Financial Crimes Online Reporting (FiCOR) system
