MOUNT VERNON DISTRICT STATION

CARJACKING/BURGLARY/STOLEN AUTO/ARREST: 8800 block of Richmond Highway, 8/13/17 around 5:45 p.m. A 53-year-old woman was sitting in her car when a man entered the front passenger seat and displayed a weapon. She exited the vehicle and the man drove off in her car. He crashed it a short distance away near Mount Vernon Memorial Highway and Forest Haven Drive. After abandoning that vehicle, the suspect then broke into a home in the 4600 block of Tarpon Lane and took a number of items, including keys to another vehicle, after confronting the owner. He took off in that car and abandoned it in the 4500 block of Neptune Drive before fleeing on foot and being apprehended by officers. Darryl Watkins, a 34-year-old from North Carolina, was arrested and charged with two counts of carjacking, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
