Halloween Safety Tips for All Ages

Halloween is a fun night for everyone, so let’s make it a safe one too!
For our seniors:
- Keep your lights on, even if you are not participating in Halloween
- Keep trick-or-treaters outside
- Remove tripping hazards from your porch and entry way to the home
- Talk to your neighbors! Ask them to check in on you tomorrow evening or better yet, hand out treats as a team
- If you are not going to be home, kindly ask a neighbor or friend to keep an eye on it
For those driving on Halloween:
- Please stay alert, children tend to be pre-occupied with Halloween fun
- Leave driveways and parking spaces slowly
- Slow down
- Do not pass vehicles stopped in the roadway as they may be stopped for pedestrians
- Drive alert, put your phone down and avoid distractions
For parents:
- Plan and discuss your child’s route if you are not joining them
- Remind children never to enter a stranger’s house
- Make sure they cross at intersections or corners – not between parked cars
- Trick-or-treat in groups
- Always send your child out with a flashlight!
For pet owners:
- Keep chocolate away and safe from your pet
- Watch for wagging tails near Jack-O-Lanterns as they may have candles inside
- Not all of our little visitors like dogs, let’s keep Fido on a leash or away from the front door when greeting trick-or-treaters
