DRUG TAKE BACK PILOT PROGRAM NOW UNDERWAY
This year’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day was a big success in Fairfax County. Our department participated in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) program to allow citizens to safely and confidentially dispose of all prescription drugs. All eight of our district stations served as drop off locations and results were the following:

We are launching a new pilot program due to the overwhelming success of this annual event, and the need for citizens to turn in prescription drugs throughout the year. The West Springfield District Station, and Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity, announced the station’s Drug Take Back Box. This program will now allow for any citizen to safely and anonymously dispose of their prescriptions at any time and at no cost. This pilot program is scheduled for six months and if effective, it is expected that the program will be expanded to the seven other district stations across the county.

As a reminder, this drug take back bin does not accept syringes, needles, liquids, or pressurized canisters. This program will also be offering a free drug-deactivating pouch which allows for the safe discarding of prescription drugs at home, while supplies last.
The pilot program will be located at: West Springfield District Station – 6140 Rolling Rd Springfield, Va 22152
A Drug Take Back Box is also located in the Town of Herndon Police Station, 397 Herndon Parkway, #300. Or you can search for other nearby controlled substance public disposal locations.
