A Fairfax County Public Schools employee is facing charges this week after an investigation found he assaulted a child with autism twice while on the way to school. These incidents are not related to the two arrests we reported on earlier this week, and involve a different suspect and victim.

In this case, a mother became alarmed when her 12-year-old non-verbal son started coming home from school with bruises. She filed a report and an investigation began. A supervisor reviewed surveillance footage from the bus and noted two encounters between the boy and bus aide, Hyung Lee, 57, of Fairfax. One incident was on October 10 and the other on October 19, both around 7:50 a.m.

Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau were assigned to investigate, and after consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, two warrants were issued for assault and battery. Lee turned himself in yesterday afternoon at the Fair Oaks District Station and was taken to the Adult Detention Center.

We ask anyone who witnesses this kind of behavior towards anyone, but especially toward members of our community who have autism or are or non-verbal, to call 9-1-1 immediately.
