Animal Protection Police Remind You to Protect Your Pets After Dog Found Roaming in Below Freezing Temperatures

Our Animal Services Division is reminding everyone of the importance of keeping your pets warm and providing adequate care and shelter for them in these frigid temperatures. Yesterday, a woman leaving a home on Pebble Hill Lane in the McLean Police District found this shivering dog on the sidewalk.

010218, FoundPoodle 1

The tan female poodle weighs about 7 pounds and is at least 10 years old. She was taken to the vet and treated, and has since been released into the care of the shelter. Please contact the Fairfax County Animal Shelter if you recognize this poodle or know who its owners may be. The shelter can be reached at 703-830-1100 or animalshelter@fairfaxcounty.gov.

  • Provide adequate space for each animal
  • Be safe and protect each animal from injury, rain, sleet, snow hail, and direct sunlight
  • Protect each animal from adverse effects of heat or cold and physical suffering
  • Protect each animal from impairment of health
  • Be properly lighted and properly cleaned
  • Enables each animal to be clean and dry, except when detrimental to the species
  • Provide a solid surface, resting platform, pad, floormat, or similar device that is large enough for the animal to lie on in a normal manner, and can be maintained in a sanitary manner. (This requirement is for cats and dogs).
