Rodrigo Mercado Rifarace, 19, of Springfield, called the number listed in our April 4 release after seeing photos from the robbery scene circulating on social media. An investigation determined the suspects, Mercado Rifarace and 20-year-old Ariel Alvarado Camacho, of Alexandria, took the game from the victim and implied they had a weapon as they walked away.
The robbery happened in Annandale on the morning of April 4 near Patriot Drive and Heritage Drive. It was reported right away, and we canvassed the area looking for any witnesses and surveillance cameras. Detectives released photos to the public asking for anyone with information to come forward. One of the suspects reached out to us after seeing those photos.
Thank you to everyone in the community who helped by sharing and retweeting the photos, and calling in tips.
