Fairfax County First Responders Train Side by Side for an Active Shooter Incident
Nearly 3,000 police officers and firefighters in Fairfax County are currently in the midst of a massive joint training exercise geared toward responding to an active shooter. The FCPD and FCFD are one of only a few public safety teams in the country to conduct such large-scale joint training, which involves first responders from different entities working together. This six-week long training runs through May 3 at an empty office building in Fairfax. It is part of our comprehensive department-wide training with our first responder partners designed to help the two agencies work seamlessly alongside each other in the event of an actual critical incident. The ultimate goal for the participants is to stop the active shooter, and tend to casualties. We thank the Peterson Companies for donating the unoccupied office space to enable this important training to take place.

Lieutenant Brian Ruck, who is one of the training organizers, will be available to brief reporters and photographers on the exercise and to answer questions.
