Shopping Center Units and Tysons Urban Team Nails Fraud Scheme
Two men are facing charges after shopping center units along with the Tysons Urban Team (TUT) received a tip that they were fraudulently purchasing high end merchandise. A store employee notified officers after the pair tried to make a purchase and the card was declined. Officers investigated the tip and learned the two men were using fake identifications, fraudulent credit cards and funds from a bank account that didn’t belong to either of them.
TUT officers in plainclothes saw the men get into a car and leave the parking lot. Officers stopped the car and found the fraudulently purchased merchandise inside. Officers placed both men under arrest and found more than $9,500 in their pockets, which belonged to the owner of the bank account. Justin Powell, 29, of Baltimore, was charged with five felonies and two misdemeanors. Donshey Blackwell, 30, of Gwynn Oak, was charged with two felonies, and a misdemeanor.
