Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. is pleased to share with our community his selection of commanders for promotion, to include our new Deputy Chief and two Majors.
Soon-to-be Lieutenant Colonel Gun Lee will take command of the Administration Bureau where he will be responsible for the Criminal Justice Academy, and the Administrative Support, Information Technology and Resource Management Bureaus. Major Lee is a 25-year veteran of law enforcement. He most recently served as Patrol Bureau commander for Division II which included the Mason and McLean District Stations, and Animal Services Division. Additionally, in his assignment as a Patrol Bureau major, he managed the school resource officer program and Civil Disturbance Unit. Previously, he commanded the Internal Affairs Bureau. A Fairfax County resident since 1986, Major Lee is also a graduate of the George Mason University, School of Business as well as the prestigious FBI National Academy (FBINA), and Senior Management Institute for Police. He is married and has a son who attends Virginia Tech.

The Chief also promoted two Captains to Majors: Chantel Cochrane who currently is the Assistant Commander of our Major Crimes Bureau and Bob Blakley, who commands our Traffic Division. Captain Cochrane has been with the Fairfax County since 1996 and her assignments have included Mount Vernon District Patrol, Neighborhood Patrol Unit, Crime Scene Section, Criminal Justice Academy, Internal Affairs Bureau, and Commander positions at the Mason District Station and Fair Oaks District Station. She is happily married to a retired Fairfax County Police Officer and has four children.
Captain Bob Blakley joined the Department in 2002, after serving four years with the Virginia State Police in Fairfax County. While with the FCPD, he’s worked in our Crash Reconstruction Unit, Internal Affairs Bureau, Major Crimes Bureau and most recently was the Sully District Station Captain. Blakley serves as one of three police commanders on the National Capital Region Incident Management Team, which deploys and manages large-scale incidents and disasters across the region and beyond. The soon-to-be Major also oversees the Department’s leadership development program, and teaches that material to law enforcement professionals across the country with the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Captain Blakley holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from George Mason University, where he also serves as an adjunct professor. He’s a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and is married to his high school sweetheart. They have four children.

Under the sharp eye of the newly promoted, we will work together to solve problems across bureaus and divisions to serve our community. These men and women recognize and appreciate my police philosophy, which centers around transparency and co-production of our policies and procedures with our community.
